What: Walk 500 Miles

Where: Anywhere, wherever you are, on a treadmill, outside, on vacation, wherever you can.

When: Any time! I’m going to start the day after christmas, and my end goal is May 1st, but you can set your own goals for 2012, or follow mine!

Why: In honor of Dr. Who, the new year, resolutions, tumblr communities, and just for the heck of walking! (While anyone is welcome, the focus is set on Whovians, but all are welcome! How many whovians can we get to walk 500 miles?!) Plus, on top of that, there will be community events hosted by this blog, all sorts of information, and possibly contests. Watch the tag: “we all walk 500 miles” where I’ll be posting all things related to this walk, and others are welcome to do the same.

How: It doesn’t matter, just keep track of how far you walk. Use a pedometer, or count only the miles you walk on a treadmill. Follow the blog, like the posts, reblog if you’re interested and want to help spread the word! It’s going to take a lot of people telling a lot of other people to get the word out! And I’m hoping that towards the beginning of May to make a video of everyone who has been walking 500 miles. Plus, it will be amazing to see how many people we can get, and how many miles we can collectively walk in honor of Dr. Who and 2012.

Walk 500 Miles!

So, here’s the plan:

Walk 500 Miles!

Who?: Doctor Who! … no, it’s you. But in the name of Doctor Who, new years resolutions and all that is fun in the world! And for kicks and community funness.

What?: Walk 500 miles by May 1st. Or, it doesn’t have to be may 1st, it it can be by June 31st (which makes a full 6 months, aka half of the year.) Just set a goal and try to walk 500 miles by that day.

Where?: Anywhere! You can walk outside, on a treadmill, with your dog, with your friends, with your ipod… anywhere! Any way! Just walk.

When?: Personally, i think it makes a great New Years resolution (but I’m going to start the day after Christmas). You can plan on starting any time and ending at any time. My personal goal is to walk 1000 miles by the end of the year entirely.

Why?: To be fit, walk around singing the proclaimers, and commemorate Dr. Who. and to just have a good time in a community of people who also like the Doctor, and who are also walking 500 miles. (Note: you do not have to be a doctor who fan to follow and join in the fun. Everyone is welcome!)

How?: Through the next six months or so I’m going to be posting advice, asking you to submit stories, do a video montage or two, and I might MIGHT even be holding a few contests, if enough interested is generated.

Want to help/join?: Tell your friends!!! Reblog, like, follow, all of these things helps to get the word out there. And also keep an eye on the tag “we all walk 500 miles.” I plan on doing an official kick off come January, so keep your eyes peeled!

Remember: it’s never to late to join! So grab your friends. You don’t have to walk you can always “Run!” So come on! “Allons-y!” Jump in with the rest of us! “Geronimo!”

Starting January 1st I’m going to walk 500 miles before May 1st. I’m inviting all whovians and technically all tumblr users to walk along with me! 1000 Miles Challenge

THE CONCEPT: Inspired by the many 500 miles videos out there, specifically those centered around Dr. Who, I thought we all should start a project of our own. I the coming year I will walk 1000 miles.

THE GOAL: This may not be your goal, but it is mine. I’m going to walk 1,000 miles by May 1st. You can make the goal any you want. You can walk 1,000 miles in a year, you can walk 500 miles by July 1st (which would be half a year) and then walk another 500 before December 31st. Or you can just start walking a lot! Either way, join the club!

FOLLOW ME!: I’ll be holding events and fun games for everyone to participate in. Everyone who joins can follow me for information on walking, keeping healthy, and other things. There will be ideas on what to do while you walk, how to continue being productive, plus you’ll be a member of a community so you will have continuous support to walk your 500 or 1,000 miles.

LIKE/REBLOG: Spread the word! When all is said and done we’ll be adding up the total miles we’ve walked to see just how far the Whovians walked in 2012. The more people we have the more miles we can walk! Note: You do not have to be a fan of Doctor Who to join in the walk. All are welcome!

Walk 1000 Miles!

Recently I was listening to the song “500 Miles” by the Proclaimers. I thought, “Why not try and walk those 500 miles?” Here’s the plan.

Starting in January 2012, I’ll start to keep track of how far I walk, and probably how long. My goal is that by the time I get to May 1st, I will have walked 500 miles.

AND I WANT YOU TO WALK 500 MILES WITH ME!

I’ve already done the math. I need to walk a little over 4 miles a day if I’m going to make it to 500 by the time I get to May 1st. And that’s if I walk a little over 4 miles EVERY DAY. So obviously I’ll probably work ahead when I can, or play catch up.

If I reach my goal by May 1st I’m going to try and walk 500 more by the time we get to next Christmas. I plan on tracking every step using a pedometer or something along those lines. I had someone suggest the site mapmyrun.com, so if or when I go walking outside, I can track how far I went.

So… why the walking? Well I’d like to be a little healthier and walking is a great low stress way to do that! Plus, I am a singer, and I’m giving a recital on April 29th, and my dress is just a little bit snug. 

What’s say you to joining me? I’m specifically inviting all Whovians aka Dr. Who fans to walk along side me for 500 miles before May 1st! However, anyone and everyone is welcome to walk along. What’s the harm in a little extra walking? And besides, after 1,000 miles you never know who might be falling down at your door.

I’ll be running all sorts of events too! Everyone from the community can help by suggesting ideas like what to do while you’re walking, or when to walk, or good songs to listen to, or what have you. And when it’s all said and done we’ll see how many miles we walked collectively.
